Neo-Colonialism in Madagascar

This report is astonishing. The South Korean firm Daewoo is negotiating with the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar to use half the arable land for farming of crops to be sent to Korea.

The deal encompasses over 3.2 million acres of farmland, about half the size of Belgium, and it appears that Daewoo will be getting it for free. In return, Madagascar citizens will have job opportunities.

Critics are insinuating that Daewoo is committing rape of a poor East African country. Others say it's simply colonialism in the 21st Century.

In any event, it's a helluva deal which may be the beginning of a trend.
