Rape Said to Cure Lesbianism

(Johannesburg, South Africa) This is bizarre. According to a new study, lesbians are being raped in South Africa by men attempting to cure their homosexuality.

The study by the anti-poverty group ActionAid said that women living in townships in Johannesburg and Cape Town were reporting increasing attacks and murders by men committing so-called 'corrective' rape.

South African women generally face a staggering risk of rape in a country with one of the highest crime rates in the world said a report on Monday.

Almost half of South African women will be raped in their lifetime, according to the report.

The significance of the rape problem in South Africa cannot be overstated. In fact, the constant threat prompted one woman, Sonette Ehlers, to invent a tampon-like anti-rape device which contained microscopic hooks that wrapped around the penis. The device causes massive pain and a flood of bleeding while requiring surgery for removal. It's been described as a cross between Chinese handcuffs and a wood chipper.

However, I suspect that sales and use of the device have been stifled because the prevalence of rape in South Africa doesn't seem to have diminished one bit over the last few years.
