California Social Worker, 33, and Boy, 14

(Merced, California) A 33-year-old social worker at a juvenile facility, Maricruz Torrez, was arrested yesterday for allegedly engaging in sex with 14-year-old boy she was supervising.

Authorities were alerted after the relationship between Torrez and the boy became common knowledge.

Investigators believe the sexual relationship started three months ago, he said.

They're also looking into whether she asked him to run away from the facility with the promise that she'd pick him up from a pre-arranged place, MacKenzie said.

Torrez was booked into custody at the Merced County Jail with bail set at $300,000.
