Unemployment Data Now Secret in Russia

(Moscow, Russia) The Russian government fears that bad economic news will affect consumer confidence and social stability so a decision was made to hide monthly unemployment data from the public.

Through three months of the year, an estimated 1.5 million Russians lost their jobs and the total number of unemployed is significantly higher than that which was projected for all of 2009.

The public is much more useful when kept in the dark.
