[Update 6/23/09]

Carolyn Pierce appeared in Orleans District Court yesterday for arraignment and pleaded not guilty to the charges against her. According to Assistant District Attorney Michael Donovan, Pierce was a friend of the victim's family.
Pierce cared for the victim, in the victim’s family home in Dennis, five times between June 9 and June 16, according to the statements in court. After the most recent time Pierce baby-sat, the victim’s mother took the child to The Children’s Cove, a child advocacy center, for an examination after noticing some physical symptoms.

Following the examination, Dennis police were called to investigate.

They interviewed Pierce on June 19. Donovan said that Pierce admitted to police that on the five days she watched the child, she touched her in a sexual way. She allegedly admitted inserting a finger into the little girl’s vagina. “She didn’t know why she did it,” Donovan said Pierce told police.
Bond was set at $25,000.
