Recently, there have been "news" reports touting the marvelousness of the soon-to-be-introduced Chevrolet Volt. However, a General Motors report indicates that the Volt's range-extender technology won't meet the November 2010 launch date. It appears that advance publicity is based on hopes that the Volt will work.
And there's this:
It is likely that GM will initially sell the Volt at a loss, hoping that it would recoup the development costs in future-generation models as Toyota has done with its Prius. So, while the mainstream media hypes the Volt, the company says it hasn't yet been able to get the vehicle's technology to work right and its launch date won't be met.
Majority-owned by the US Treasury, GM has been seeking loans from the US Department for Energy to help it develop advanced fuel technology vehicles.
Meanwhile, one government entity, U.S. Treasury/General Motors, is playing a shell game with another government entity, U.S. Department of Energy, with taxpayer dollars. Despite who gets the pea, the American public loses.
"There's a whole lotta hopin' goin' on, eh?"
