Ohio Noise Law Allows Confiscation of Property

(Lorain, Ohio) The Lorain City Council has passed an ordinance to deter loud sounds from automobile music systems. Violators face stiff fines of $300 to $500 and the possible loss of their sound systems and their vehicles.
The new law calls for seizing and impounding the car's sound equipment on a first offense.

If a police officer cannot easily remove the device at the scene, then the car will be towed and impounded for up to five days so city mechanics can remove the stereo equipment. The violator must pay for the tow and the stereo removal work.

If fines are not paid within a 90-day period, the offender faces forfeiting the sound equipment and the car to the city.
Opponents contend the law unfairly targets those who like rap music. Frankly, I think the law is draconian despite who gets caught.
