By self-described abortion addict Irene Vilar, a freshly-published memoir called "Impossible Motherhood" details her 15 abortions in 17 years. Notably, the manuscript for "Impossible Motherhood" was rejected 51 times before being accepted for publication.
Vilar claims that abortion for her was like experiencing drug addiction or anorexia and it all started at 16 when she married a 50-year-old literature professor who didn't want children. She rebelled by "forgetting" to take her birth control pills.
'In the beginning I was taking pills and I'd skip a day or two or give up one month,' she said in a television interview. 'I'd think I'll be better next time.Vilar continues to be adamantly pro-abortion with seemingly not a hint of regret for terminating 15 innocent, defenseless lives. Hard to stomach here, boss.
'But slowly, my days took on a balancing act and there was a specific high. I would get my period and be sad, then discover I was pregnant, being afraid, yet also so excited.'
She claimed she had the abortions so her husband wouldn't leave her although she failed to reveal whether he knew of the terminations.
'Of course, this did not mean I wanted to do it again and again,' she said. 'A druggie also wants to stop every time.'
She now has two daughters living with her and a second husband and is working on a new book about motherhood.
[Add.] Dr. Carol Cooper weighs in regarding the physical and psychological effects of multiple abortions.
"IT is mind-boggling that any woman would put her body through the trauma of an abortion 15 times. After just one, the risks start building up.The doctor believes Irene needs to seek psychiatric help. Heh.
The cervix often has to be dilated to perform the procedure. It can become lax as a result, which may increase the risk of miscarriage later in life. It may also impact on a woman's cervical cancer risk - but more research is needed in this area.
It is rare for me as a doctor to meet a woman who doesn't feel sad after an abortion. [...]
It sounds as if Irene is almost flaunting what she has done."
