(Hanoi, Vietnam) A local taxi driver, Dinh Thanh Huyen, and three other men were arrested after being caught with two frozen tigers.
The animal carcasses allegedly came from southern Vietnam and were being transported to Hanoi for sale.
Police said the case was likely part of a larger tiger trafficking ring.Where's PETA? Ingrid Newkirk and her PETA buddies should catch the first flight to Southeast Asia and try to save the tiger. Furthermore and despite the tigers' travails, just think of the cats and dogs and monkeys, all of which I've heard show up on Southeast Asians' dinner plates.
Tigers are disappearing from their natural habitat in Vietnam, with less than 50 tigers living naturally within the country’s borders. Tiger skin, teeth, meat and bones fetch high prices on the black market here.
One might reasonably contend that there is more than sufficient justification to make Hanoi the world headquarters of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
Heh.
