Teacher Gets 30 Days for Rape of Boy - Updated

(Jamestown, Tennessee) Yesterday, 28-year-old teacher Lindsey Seymour pleaded guilty to aggravated statutory rape of a 16-year-old student and was sentenced.
Seymour will serve a 30 day sentence before the court will approve the agreement.

If the court approves the agreement, Seymour will be under supervised probation for six years and judicial diversion for six years before the case will be shown on her record as a dismissed charge.
Seymour was also ordered to register as a sex offender for six years and complete a sex offender treatment program.

I suggest that any rational observer would view Seymour's punishment as exceedingly lenient. Thirty days in jail is arguably laughable and she gets her record scrubbed. An offending male teacher would not be so lucky.

Tennessee Teacher Accused of Inappropriate Relations
[Previous 10/4/09 post]
(Jamestown, Tennessee) A 27-year-old teacher at the state-run Alvin C. York Institute, Lindsey Seymour, has been accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old male student. Reportedly, the alleged relationship lasted several months.
Assistant District Attorney John Galloway said the 16-year-old boy's parents brought the allegations to his office. He said there was "substantial evidence" and asked the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to look into the matter.

On Thursday [9/24], TBI agents began to investigate, and that investigation is ongoing, according to a TBI spokeswoman.

Then, on Monday, Seymour resigned her position.
Seymour's teaching certification is under consideration for revocation as the TBI investigation continues.
