15,000 Newspaper Jobs Lost in 2009

According to the News Cycle website, more than 15,000 jobs have disappeared from the newspaper industry in 2009. Not included in the listing below are 705 buyouts and layoffs announced for December. Check out the month-to-month tabulations.
November -- 293 people.
October -- 375 people.
September -- 347 people.
August -- 425 people.
July -- 2,505 people.
June -- 318 people.
May -- 1,084 people.
April -- 1,350 people.
March -- 3,943 people.
February -- 1,492 people.
January -- 2,256 people.
Obviously, the newspapers are not selling sufficient advertising to support existing staffing levels. So costs are being reduced by eliminating jobs. Blame is put on downturn of the economy causing the advertising slump.
