Florida Sex Offender Gets Prison - Updated

(Okaloosa County, Florida) As a result of failing to register as a sex offender, 32-year-old Michelle Leigh Kemp has been sentenced to five years, four and one-half months in prison.
Michelle L. Kemp was originally sentenced to 2 years of community control followed by three years of probation after she was convicted of lewd and lascivious battery on a child under 16, according to a press release from the State Attorney’s Office.

Kemp was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old in 2009.

Her most recent sentence comes after she was involved in a disturbance at a Destin restaurant and club.
So, Kemp traded house arrest for 5+ years in prison. And she'll still have to register as a sex offender once released from prison.

Florida Sex Offender Fails to Register - Updated
[Previous 3/13/12 post]
(Okaloosa County, Florida) Sentenced to community control in January 2011, Michelle Kemp has now been arrested in Okaloosa County for failing to register as a sex offender.
Okaloosa County deputies arrested Kemp while responding to a domestic violence call at AJ’s bar in Destin. It was discovered she hadn’t registered as a sexual offender only after she lied to an officer, telling him her name was Mandy Sue Hoover.[…]

Kemp was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday. She told the arresting officer on Friday that she had lied to him about who she was because “she has an upcoming hearing to get off probation,” his report on the incident states.

Bill Bishop, the chief assistant state attorney for Okaloosa County, said Kemp will now face a violation of probation charge.

She was not wearing the monitor she was ordered to wear as part of her community control sentence, Bishop said. Her allegedly not being registered as a sexual offender will also be taken into account, he said.
Jeez, one might think that Kemp was begging for prison time.

House Arrest for Sex with Boy - Updated
[Previous 11/4/10 post]
(Panama City, Florida) Yesterday, 31-year-old Michelle Kemp pleaded no contest to engaging in sexual behavior with a 15-year-old boy.

Consequently, Kemp was sentenced to house arrest for two years.
Jason Kemp, Michelle Kemp’s ex-husband, called the sentence “completely unbelievable.” Jason Kemp, who now lives in Des Moines, Iowa, with the couple’s children, said his wife’s crimes led to their divorce, and questioned whether there is a double standard for women who commit sex crimes.

“I know if I did what she did I would be in jail right now,” Jason Kemp said. “I think it’s unbelievable. Completely unbelievable.”

Prosecutor Tracy Smith said the genders of the people involved didn’t factor into the plea.
Kemp was also ordered to register as a sex offender and receive mental health treatment.

For what it's worth, I agree with Jason Kemp.

Florida Woman Accused of Sex with Boy
[Previous 12/7/09 post]
(Panama City, Florida) A 30-year-old Crestview, FL, woman, Michelle Leigh Kemp, has been accused of engaging in sex with a 15-year-old boy and providing him with marijuana and prescription pills.

She has been charged with lewd and lascivious acts on a child and delivery of a controlled substance.

Kemp reportedly picked up the boy and drove him to the Callaway, FL, area and engaged in sex with him in her vehicle.
When the boy returned home, an adult at the house saw the two together and confronted the juvenile. The boy's mother said Kemp previously was invovled (sic) with the boy in Okaloosa County but charges were dropped when she agreed to undergo counseling.

The boy told the adult what happened, and the adult called Springfield police. Sheriff's deputies became involved because the incident allegedly occurred in Callaway.
Kemp surrendered to authorities today.
