Vietnam Buys Russian Fighter Jets
It has been reported out of Moscow that the government of Vietnam has inked a deal with Russia to purchase 12 Su-30MK2 fighters and associated weapons.
The purchase appears to be in addition to 8 Su-30MK2 fighters bought last year.
Price negotiated in the deal is approximately $1 billion with delivery scheduled for 2011 and 2012.
The Su-30MK2 fighter is an all-weather, long-range strike fighter with a NATO reporting name of "Flanker-G." In addition to Russia, the nations of China, Indonesia and Venezuela fly the Su-30MK2. It is reportedly comparable to the U.S. Air Force F-15E.
