(Northfield, Minnesota) Sixth-grade teacher at Northfield Middle School, Susan Mwarabu, was prosecuted and sentenced for biting off part of the ear of restaurant customer Christopher Hough.
In a letter to the media, Mwarabu offered no explanation of why she did it.
“Does it really matter why it happened?,” wrote Susan Mwarabu, 30, who was sentenced Thursday to serve 60 days either on home monitoring or at the Ramsey County Workhouse. “Isn’t it bad enough that it even happened?" […]Mwarabu received five years of probation during which she is prohibited from consuming alcohol.
“Being drunk is not an excuse that I am willing to use,” Mwarabu wrote, later saying that she is “shamed and constantly guilty” about what happened to Hough. […]
“That I erred in the choices that I made that night is quite clear and I will experience the consequences of my actions for some time to come. My hope of course, is that I can set an example for others in the future so that we can get away from being a society of drumming up excuses to one that owns up to our mistakes, fixes them and finds solutions to problems.”
