(Oviedo, Florida) A 32-year-old special education teacher formerly at Oviedo High School, Meredith Witt, pleaded no contest yesterday to providing alcohol to underage students, a misdemeanor. As a result, Witt was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
The specific offense occurred in November 2009 when Witt hosted several students at a party at her house.
One of the students borrowed her vehicle and was involved in a crash, according to the Seminole County School District.In addition to 30 days in jail, Witt was ordered to serve two years on probation.
According to Oviedo police, Dylan Harper Ferguson, 18, was arrested and charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident Monday night.
Witt was immediately suspended with pay but resigned on Wednesday [11/4/09], the district said.
The district said it is continuing its investigation and will forward the findings to a state organization in regard to Witt's teaching certificate.
