Teacher Gets Probation for Child Abuse

(Gallatin, Tennessee) Last year, a special education teacher at Station Camp Elementary School, Donna Weidenbenner, was indicted for alleged serious abuse of six special-needs children. The alleged abuse reportedly occurred during the 2008-2009 school year.

This week, 48-year-old Weidenbenner pleaded no contest to three counts of child abuse of children aged 6 and under.
Weidenbenner was sentenced to two years probation at 30 percent for each count, which is to be served consecutively for a total of six years at 30 percent.

Also, she must surrender her teaching license and may not teach in public or private schools, nor may she work in daycares or other professions involving children.
Weidenbenner also faces lawsuits filed in federal court by parents of allegedly abused children.
