Carolina Teacher Gets Jail in Sex Case - Updated

(Shelby, North Carolina) In December 2010, Special Education teacher and mother-of-three, Nicole Chapman, pleaded guilty to taking indecent liberties and committing a sex offense with a 19-year-old special needs student.

Superior Court Judge Forrest D. Bridges ordered a pre-sentence evaluation at a psychiatric facility.

Astonishingly, during the December proceeding Chapman requested permission to continue her criminal relations with the student. However, she apparently changed her mind before this week's sentencing hearing.
“I’m not the same Nicole,” she announced Monday, moments before Judge James W. Morgan read her sentence. “I can tell, and my family can tell, I’m a different person thanks to the help I’ve gotten.”
Consequently, Judge Morgan sentenced Chapman to six to 12 months in jail and a term of supervised probation.

Carolina Teacher and Male Student
[Previous 5/28/10 post]
(Cleveland County, North Carolina) Nicole Chapman, a 28-year-old married mom and teacher formerly at North Shelby School for special needs students, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly engaging in sex with a 19-year-old male student.

Chapman faces charges of indecent liberties with a student and sex offense on a student.
Chapman denied doing anything wrong. As she walked away from the magistrate's office, she told WBTV the reason she is in this "predicament" is because of racism. WBTV reports the student is black.

The student, Davaughia Sniper, says they had gone out on dates and they were in love.

"I love her, she loves me," Davaughia Sniper told WBTV. "So as far as that goes, this ain't going to stop me from seeing her - so it don't matter."

Police say even though the student is 19 years old, it is illegal for a teacher to have a relationship of any kind with a student.
Chapman was booked into custody with bond set at $75,000.
