(Kenosha, Wisconsin) A 32-year-old French and drama teacher at McKinley Middle School, Rebecca Prochniak, was arrested last Saturday for allegedly failing to report child abuse and intimidation of a victim.
Reportedly, the 16-year-old female victim of fondling and attempted sex assault by another teacher approached Prochniak to tell her what happened.
The girl said that 40-year-old Sylvanus A. Tyler, who also teaches at McKinley Middle School, kissed her, fondled her and tried to pull her legs apart. Prochniak's advice to the girl was to keep quiet.
Later the three of them got together, talked about what happened and hugged, according to the report. According to the girl’s statement, Tyler said he was sorry and he began to cry.Prochniak was charged with intimidation of a victim and failure to report child abuse and neglect. She was booked and released on $500 signature bond.
Court records show that Prochniak was contacted by Tyler, who said he “messed up real bad.”
Prochniak told the girl not to tell anyone about Tyler’s actions. Prochniak also said she could lose her job and Tyler could go to jail. She said she did not report the incident because she feared for herself and for Tyler.
