Baby Tests Positive for Marijuana

(Lawrence County, Alabama) A 23-year-old woman, December Ann Green, was arrested this week for allegedly endangering her 15-month-old baby.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell, Green's baby tested positive for marijuana twice.
Mitchell said Green's child tested positive for marijuana at birth, in April of 2009. The Lawrence County Department of Human Resources immediately began monitoring the two of them.

On May 24, the child tested positive for drugs again. Sheriff Mitchell says before the test results were in, Green took her child and fled to Texas.

On Wednesday, Green returned to Alabama for a doctor's appointment. Deputies arrested her.
Green was booked into custody at the Lawrence County Jail with bond set at $8,000.

Frankly, I would like to call this an isolated incident but I sense it's part of a coming flood of cases as more and more jurisdictions legalize or decriminalize reefer. The argument that marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol is weakened with regard to little children.

If mom and dad are drinking, it's relatively simple to keep the alcohol away from the kids. However, if mom and dad are medicating themselves with pot, it's likely that marijuana smoke will enter the kids' lungs.
