(UK) When it comes to government benefits, it's hard to disagree that a program providing prostitutes at taxpayer expense is at the top of the pyramid.
Yes, the British nanny-state pays for the services of hookers for citizens deemed to have learning disabilities. In the words of one social worker, refusing to offer the service "would be a violation of his human rights."
And there's more. British taxpayers also foot the bill for airfare to Amsterdam where the prostitutes' services are legally purchased. Also covered in the scheme is money for lap dances and exotic vacations.
Interestingly, the British scheme to fly sex customers to the Netherlands is fortuitous. Last year, Dutch sex workers in Amsterdam asked the government to stimulate their business. Of course, the request was directed at their own local government.
Nevertheless, the British government in effect responded, knowingly or otherwise, and now is sending customers to boost income of the bordello and prostitution business.
In my estimation, providing prostitutes is an imprudent use of taxpayer funds. However, with the innovative treatment program becoming known to the public, I suggest that many previously-undiagnosed cases of disability may now swell the patient lists.
