(Cleveland, Ohio) A 25-year-old local mother and ex-convict who did time for assault, Angel Glass, has pleaded guilty to aggravated murder in the October 2009 beating death of her five-year-old son, Arshon Baker.
As a result, on Wednesday Judge David Matia sentenced Glass to 30 years to life in prison, the maximum.
She told police that she put the boy in the corner to punish him for lifting her dress. When he wouldn't stay there, she hit him with a hairbrush and then a belt. He ran and fell, hitting his head on a dresser, she said. The court was unconvinced by Glass' expressions of remorse.
But prosecutors said Arshon had several injuries on his head, while police reports said his body was covered with old and new burn scars, bruises and cuts.
Arshon died at MetroHealth Medical Center of pneumonia brought on by injuries to his head and body.
