(Liverpool, England) In March 2010, a 37-year-old teacher at Birkdale High School in Southport, Hina Patel, was accused of engaging in sex with two 15-year-old boys.
Reported today, Patel has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child.
Martin Decker, prosecuting, told the court that the offences, which took place about three weeks before Easter this year, came to light when another pupil was overheard discussing a teacher having had sex with a pupil. As a result of the convictions, Patel was sentenced to 16 months in prison. In her defense, lawyer Patrick Williamson said Patel, a mother of two, had a tough childhood and suffered from stress.
When the two victims were tracked down they admitted that Patel had begun texting them after they had separately been sent to the isolation room, which she was supervising, for bad behaviour.
The texts became “flirty” and they both individually made their way to her home one afternoon. At one stage one boy went to the toilet and she was waiting for him on the stairs when he came out and they went into her bedroom and had sexual intercourse.
The other boy stayed the night and they had sex, said Mr Decker.
In addition to prison, Judge John Roberts ordered Patel to register as a sex offender for 10 years and prohibited her from contacting any children under 16, except her own.
