Texas Teacher Gets No Jail in Sex Case - Updated

(Fort Worth, Texas) Science teacher Jennifer Riojas, now 27, pleaded guilty yesterday to engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old male student.

As a result, Riojas was sentenced to six years of deferred adjudication probation.

The Tarrant County District Attorney's office said under the plea agreement, Riojas must forfeit her teaching certificate and undergo a sex-offender evaluation and, if necessary, undergo treatment.

"Considering the facts of the case and the wishes of the victim and his family, we felt this was an appropriate outcome," said Assistant District Attorney Dale Smith. "She will be under court supervision for the next six years and will undergo treatment if necessary. She will also never be able to teach again."

Meanwhile, it's still not clear who made Riojas pregnant.

(Fort Worth, Texas) A 26-year-old science teacher formerly at Carter-Riverside High School, Jennifer Riojas, was arrested yesterday for allegedly engaging in sex with a 16-year-old male student.

Riojas has been charged with felony sexual assault of a child.

According to the arrest affidavit, Riojas had sex with an underage football player who she taught last year, when the student was in 10th grade.

Fort Worth police said the student came forward because he was worried that he could be the father of Riojas' unborn child.

The sex reportedly started when the boy suffered a football injury and Riojas visited him in the hospital and jumped his bones. Subsequently, they met at various local hotels for sexual episodes.




Riojas resigned from her teaching position last month after being accused of having sex with two students. Currently, she is said to be about four months pregnant. The father of her unborn child is unknown.

Riojas was booked into custody at the Mansfield Jail.
