Doper Tourists Not Wanted in Holland

(Maastricht, Netherlands) The European Union Court of Justice has ruled that the prohibition on non-Dutch residents entering cannabis shops is acceptable.

The new ruling apparently applies only to tourists in the city of Maastricht, for now.
The court said the ban was justified as it could help combat drugs tourism and tackle the accompanying public order nuisance.

It said the laws had been intended to put an end to the public nuisance caused by the large number of tourists wanting to purchase or consume cannabis in the coffee-shops in the municipality of Maastricht.
Opponents of the measure claim that EU citizens are not being treated equally.
