Teacher Gets No Jail for Misdemeanor Sex - Updated

(East Lyme, Connecticut) In accordance with a plea agreement, former music teacher Amy Schneider has pleaded guilty to engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a male student, now an 18-year-old.

As a result, Schneider was sentenced to one year of probation.
Victim advocate John Adriano says the victim had no objection to a plea deal that allowed Schneider to plead guilty to fourth-degree sexual assault, a misdemeanor, which allows her to avoid having to register as a sex offender.
Schneider is also prohibited from applying for teaching credentials for five years.

(East Lyme, Connecticut) A 25-year-old music teacher at East Lyme Middle School, Amy Schneider, has been accused of sexually assaulting someone.

Arrest warrants in the case have been sealed so the victim of the assault is currently undisclosed.

Schneider faces three counts of second-degree sexual assault.
In Connecticut, Second-degree sexual assault includes sex with a victim between the ages of 13 and 16, or if the suspect is a school employee and the victim is a student.
Schneider was booked and released on $10,000 bond. Arraignment is scheduled for April 7.
