Texas Teacher Gets No Jail in Student Sex Case - Update

(San Antonio, Texas) Former dance team coach at Jefferson High School Destini Michelle Munoz pleaded no contest in November to engaging in sex with an 18-year-old student.

As a result, Munoz was sentenced this week to seven years of deferred adjudication probation.
The youth told investigators he began flirting with Munoz via text messages and kissed her one day as she was eating lunch in her classroom. She went to his house for the first time the same day she was in court for her divorce, the student said.

“I remember right after I said, 'I can't believe I just had sex with my teacher,'” the student told police.

“She got mad and told me not to say anything, and said that I had killed the mood.”

Because the student was 18 during the encounters with Munoz, she will not have to register as a sex offender.
Munoz was also ordered to permanently surrender her teaching credentials.
