Woman Faces Child Sex & Gun Charges - Updated

(Las Cruces, New Mexico) While awaiting trial on child sex charges from April, 19-year-old Melanie Maya Freeman, caught additional trouble by pulling a gun on her sister during an argument.

Freeman fled after threatening her sister and holed up at her 38-year-old boyfriend's house where she was arrested yesterday morning.

While in a holding cell at the Las Cruces Police Department, Freeman allegedly escaped briefly from her handcuffs, but officers were able to quickly restrain her.

She is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, intimidation of a witness and resisting or obstructing a police officer and has been jailed at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $20,000.

Freeman's trial on criminal sexual penetration of a minor and battery on a peace officer is scheduled to begin on July 16.

(Las Cruces, New Mexico) A 19-year-old local female, Melanie Maya Freeman, was arrested yesterday for allegedly engaging in sex with a 12-year-old boy.

Reportedly, when officers arrived to arrest Freeman, she was found in a bedroom in bed with the boy.

Freeman faces charges of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and battery on a peace officer. Apparently, she kneed an officer when arrested.

Freeman was booked into custody at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $55,000.
