Alabama Teacher Sex Case Dismissed - Update

(Franklin County, Alabama) Regarding the student sex charges against former teacher Kimberly Dawn Bynum, 31, they have been formally dismissed according to District Attorney Joey Rushing.
“This was a unique situation in that the victim in the case, his parents, the school and the investigating agency all agreed the case should be dismissed,” Rushing said.

“There would also have been issues with prosecuting the case because the alleged victim is now an adult and has actually married the defendant.

“He indicated he did not want to cooperate with the prosecution and would assert his marital privileges if the case proceeded.”

Rushing said the victim’s parents also expressed they did not want to continue with the case against their now daughter-in-law.

“Based on all these limitations and the wishes of the victim’s family, we decided it would be best to dismiss the case,” Rushing said.
So, there are no consequences if the teacher marries the student lover.

(Vina, Alabama) A 29-year-old math teacher at Vina High School, Kimberly Bynum, has been accused of engaging in sex with a 17-year-old former student.

Bynum has been charged with being an educator engaged in sex with a student, a Class B felony.
Rumors about the relationship started coming to light in the Vina community, sheriff investigators said, and the district attorney's office notified the sheriff's department Wednesday.

On Thursday, the 17-year-old student, who graduated this year, admitted to investigators he and Bynum had an affair, officials said.
Bynum was booked into custody with bond set at $10,000.

Well, urhm, yeah. That's actually how it used to work. It's why, once married, teachers were no longer allowed to teach as well. It's sort of built into the system, only now they messed it up by allowing women to be married AND teach.
