(Wenzhou, China) A deadly high-speed train collision on Saturday night resulted in at least 40 deaths and more than 200 injuries. One train struck another from behind. Six cars derailed and four cars fell off a viaduct.
Early Sunday, the government announced the firing of three top officials in the Railway Ministry.
Blame is being directed toward inadequate safety standards which is a common complaint about public transportation throughout the nation. Safety standards continually lag behind rapid building, expansion and modernization of structures and systems.
