The entire UK music industry considers Christmas No. 1 to be especially prestigious with many instances where Christmas No. 1 was also the best-seller for the year.
Bookmakers even lay odds and take bets on which song will be Christmas No. 1.
For 2011, it appears that Wherever You Are by the Military Wives is a lock. In five days, the song has sold 450,000 copies, five times the sales of the closest competitor.
