Facebook De-Friending Prompts Double Murder

(Johnson County, Tennessee) A 60-year-old local man, Marvin Potter, Jr., and his friend, 38-year-old Jamie Lynn Curd, face murder charges in the killings of a young couple, 36-year-old Billy Payne and 23-year-old Billie Jean Hayworth.

Evidence indicates Potter and Curd entered the victims' residence and shot both in the head. When the bodies were discovered, Hayworth was found still clutching her unharmed baby in her arms.

The motive for the fatal shootings was that Payne and Hayworth de-friended Potter's daughter, Jenelle Potter, on Facebook. According to Johnson County Sheriff Mike Reece, everything "centers around Facebook."
Sheriff Reece says after they de-friended her, Potter made a threat to the victims and two others on Facebook on January 13th or 14th. Investigators are now in the process of trying to subpoena that Facebook information.

According to the sheriff, the situation angered Potter's dad and that's what led to the murders of Payne and Hayworth, who were killed in front of their six month-old son.

Reece said Jenelle Potter has a history of getting angry when people de-friend her on Facebook.

“Apparently, she was on the internet all the time,” Reece said. “That was her life. When she was a friend with someone on Facebook and they removed her, she went ballistic. This is just a senseless thing. That’s no reason to kill people.”
Curd and Potter have been booked into custody at the Johnson County Jail with bond set at $200,000. Both face counts of first-degree murder. A court appearance is scheduled for March 7.
