Ohio Woman Sacked for Drug-Filled Football

(Mansfield, Ohio) A 43-year-old former corrections officer, Janine A. Fulton, has been accused of attempting to throw two Wilson footballs filled with pills, marijuana, cigarettes, cell phones and cell phone chargers over the fence and into the Richland Correctional Institution.

Fulton faces a charge of illegal conveyance of drugs. According to Lt. Ken Coontz, Fulton could face more charges.
"I was surprised at the amount of contraband and drugs that can be put in a football," Coontz said, adding the two inmates in question also may face charges.

The Mansfield Police Department and the Ohio Highway Patrol also helped with the investigation.

"I would like to say it's uncommon, but it's not," Ohio Highway Patrol Lt. Mike Kemmer said of people tossing drugs over the fence. "The perimeter is so large."
Fulton was previously fired from her position as a corrections officer for allowing contraband to remain in prison.
