Virginia Teacher Accused of Arriving Drunk to School

(Ashburn, Virginia) A 50-year-old substitute teacher at Stone Hill Middle School, Jacqueline J. Barnes, has been accused of reporting to school intoxicated.

Barnes faces a charge of drunk in public.
According to Liz Mills, spokeswoman for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, a Loudoun Sheriff’s School Resource Officer was notified by school personnel that a teacher had arrived at school after 9 a.m. and appeared to be intoxicated.

“The school personnel reported to the SRO that substitute teacher was possibly intoxicated,” Mills said. “She didn’t have contact with any students she was on her way into school when she came into contact with school personnel.”

According to Wayde Byard, spokesperson for Loudoun County Public Schools, Barnes was a substitute teaching assistant and the incident happened before school had started.
Barnes was released on her own recognizance and may lose her job.
