(Tehran, Iran) Reportedly, Iran uses an amputation machine to remove thieves' fingers.
According to the INSA press agency, the man shown getting his finger cut off was charged with robbery and adultery by a court in the southwestern city of Shiraz. He was also accused of being at the head of a criminal organisation. On top of losing one of his fingers, he was sentenced to three years in prison and 99 whip lashes.Interestingly, the finger amputation machine looks a lot like an everyday table saw. In any event, public incidents of gruesome punishment are likely intended to frighten voters in the run-up to June's presidential election.
No independent witnesses were able to recount the circumstances under which this amputation took place. Four photos of the scene published by the press agency were widely relayed on social media networks.

They ought to make it a lotto, turn their thieves into woodworkers... I don't have my own table saw yet, which may explain the full complement of digits. The circular saw just doesn't... cut it. :p
