(Stanley, Falklands Islands)
The people of the Falkland Islands have voted overwhelmingly in favour of remaining a UK overseas territory.Interestingly but not surprisingly,
Of 1,517 votes cast in the two-day referendum - on a turnout of more than 90% - 1,513 were in favour, while just three votes were against.
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has maintained that the Falkland islanders' wishes are not relevant in what is a territorial issue.I'd suggest that every time the Argentine leadership senses restlessness within the population, the distracting issue of Falklands Islands sovereignty is trumpeted. Nationalistic fervor ensues.
It's unclear why the arithmetic doesn't work out. To wit: 1,517 votes cast does not equal 1,513 for and 3 against. A vote is missing.
