Tennessee Babe NOT Convicted BUT Sentenced for Rape - Update

(Jackson, Tennessee)
Hannah Steiner was sentenced this morning to two years of judicial diversion - or probation.

Steiner's sentence is not considered a conviction of statutory rape and she is not required to be on the sex offender registry.

Steiner, 18, of Jackson, entered a plea in October of no contest to two counts of statutory rape in connection with her having sexual contact with a 13-year-old boy, according to Jackson police.
This case is confusing. Steiner pleaded no contest to the rape charges and was sentenced to no jail…BUT…she wasn't convicted. How does that work?
