Consumer Anecdote

If one looks closely at the glass tubing on the compact fluorescent bulb, a discoloration is evident. It's likely the reason the device ceased emitting photons . . . early, if one relies on packaging nomenclature asserting a 9-year life.

After being illuminated no more than 4 hours daily, my fluorescent contribution to save the environment quit within six months.

I'm guessing it was an "isolated failure that occurs from time to time that should be handled on a case-by-case basis."

I have 3 flat style ones in an enclosed light fixture. They burn out fast because the heat can't excape.
