Georgia Teacher Faces Drug Charges

(Albany, Georgia) A Lee County teacher, Kimela Phillips, has been accused of drug possession after being stopped for a traffic offense.

Phillips faces four drug related charges, including a traffic violation, 2 counts possession of a controlled substance, and having an open container of alcohol while driving.
“She came out of an area that we know is a haven for drug sales and we saw her come out of there and an officer saw her commit a traffic violation and pulled her over,” said Major Bill Berry, Albany Dougherty Drug Unit.

Police found Xanax and four other drugs inside her vehicle.

Major Berry says there were no prescriptions for any of the drugs inside the vehicle and none of the pills were in proper containers as they were all mixed together.
Phillips was booked and released on $5,600.
