Arizona Women Accused of Extortion

Two women are accused of stealing a woman’s purse, using her personal information and threatening her to try to get money, according to Phoenix police.

Sara Hartwig, 28, and Charline Hurtado, 24, were taken into custody Wednesday night, said Sgt. Trent Crump, a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department.

They are accused of stealing a purse from the car of a 35-year-old woman at a gas station on May 10, he said, adding that the purse contained credit cards, a passport, banking information and other forms of identification,.

Hartwig and Hurtado used the credit cards and eventually demanded $10,000 from the woman and threatened to kill her if she didn’t give them the money, Crump said.
The pair face extortion and identity theft charges.
