Carolina Teacher Accused of Shooting Ex-Husband

(Monroe, North Carolina) A 43-year-old teacher's assistant at Union Academy, Jeanine Byrum Collins, has been accused of shooting her ex-husband, 47-year-old Marvin Gay Collins, in the head.

Collins faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Police say 43-year-old Jeanine Collins, a teacher's assistant at Union Academy, went to her ex-husband's apartment and they had an argument.

That's when police say she got to his gun, a 9mm handgun, and shot him in the head during a struggle.

Collins initially told police that Marvin Collins had shot himself.

Once he was treated and released from the hospital - and was able to talk - Marvin Collins told detectives that Jeanine Collin had shot him. Detectives were able to arrest Jeanine Collins without incident.
