California School Coach Accused of Sex with Teen

(Menifee, California) A 23-year-old basketball coach at a Menifee High School, Lauren Matheney, has been arrested for having sex with a 15-year-old student.

Matheney faces counts of oral copulation with a minor and annoying or molesting a minor.

Authorities say the investigation began after officers found 23-year-old Lauren Matheney with a minor in a parked vehicle near Keller and Menifee roads on Jan. 21. Officers learned that Matheney was a JV basketball coach at Paloma Valley High School.

According to police, it became apparent that the relationship between Matheney and the minor was inappropriate and criminal in nature.

Matheney was booked and released on $25,000 bond.
