Colorado Woman Gets 40 Years in Son's Death

(Colorado Springs, Colorado) Last November, 42-year-old local mom Shannon Dodson drowned her 5-year-old son with the reported intention of also killing herself. Sadly, Jude Murray-Gomez is dead while his mom lives on.

Dodson pleaded guilty to murder Friday and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Firefighters called to Dodson's apartment found Jude's body and Dodson sitting in a closet naked and wet. The door to Dodson's apartment had been barricaded from the inside, and the bathtub was full of water.

Dodson said in court Friday she was distressed because she had to give her son back to the boy's father and grandmother because of the custody agreement. She said she thought killing herself and her son would be the best way to solve the problem.

Well, she's still alive.
