Kentucky Teacher Accused of Rape of Student

(Shepherdsville, Kentucky) A 24-year-old teacher at Bullitt Central High School, Crystal Chappell, has been accused of rape of a student.

Chappell faces a charge of third-degree rape.
Eric Farris, attorney for Bullitt County Public Schools, said the district heard about the allegations Thursday. They suspended Chappell and reported the accusations to police. Farris said school officials first learned about the allegations from students.

Under Kentucky law, teachers and other authority figures can be charged with third-degree rape for having sex with a minor who is under their supervision.
Chappell was booked into custody at the Bullitt County Detention Center.
