Traffic Deaths in Europe

More than two decades after the fall of Communism, Europe remains a continent divided in many respects. Traffic statistics offer one example. Eastern Europeans still own fewer cars than their Western cousins, but road fatality rates in the east remain far higher, on average, than in the West.
Travelers should be cautious.

I would be interested in levels of alcohol use, dui enforcement, and a few other things. That would probably explain much. I don't know if it is still true, but the last time I was in German (West), I was told that a dui would lead to a lifelong termination of driving privileges. Then again, that was before the wall came down. Most of Europe seemed harsh about it, though I don't know how well, or equally, that was enforced.

You should see the Russian dash cam crash videos, some so crazy you almost want to laugh.
