Vermont Educator Accused of Sex with Student
(St. Albans, Vermont) A 35-year-old teacher at Bellows Free Academy, Nicola Smith, has been accused of sexually assaulting a student.
Smith pleaded not guilty.
In court documents, Detective Timothy Chagnon with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department writes that the boy and Smith were exchanging inappropriate photos on Snapchat and via text message.Smith was fired by the school.
"Supposedly it is immediately erased and not recoverable," the detective wrote. The two met in Wood Shop, according to the investigation.
The documents say the two had sex in the back seat on Smith's car. The boy was 15 at the time, but turned 16 later that week.
Smith confessed to another teacher, who notified the school's resource officer. Smith later confessed under questioning, even saying "obviously I'm guilty," according to the affidavits.
