Pa.: Will a deal resolve charges that 25-year-old woman had sex with teen?
The case against a 25-year-old woman accused of having sex with a teenage boy and providing alcohol and prescription drugs to kids is headed to Cumberland County Court.
After a small group of teenage witnesses showed up at District Judge Paul Fegley's office Monday morning, Leah Freeland waived her preliminary hearing, sending the case forward on the path to trial.
The case might not end up in front of a jury, though, said her attorney, Deputy Public Defender John Shugars.
"We've had some preliminary discussions about resolving it prior to a trial," Shugars said. He stressed, however, that the case is in its early stages.
Freeland declined comment.
The Middlesex Township woman was arrested by local police last month on six counts of statutory sexual assault. Police said the investigation of Freeland began in February when ChildLine received a tip that Freehand was having sex with a 15-year-old boy and was giving him alcohol.

Police said the boy told them he and Freeland had sex five or six times at her home in Country Manor Mobile Home Park in February and March. They said the teen reported Freeland had given him alcohol, pills and gifts.
Five girls, ages 10 to 13, said they would hang out at Freeland's home and she would give them alcohol, police said. One girl said Freehand also gave her a blue pill, according to investigators.
Besides the statutory sexual assault counts, Freeland faces charges of corruption of minors and furnishing alcohol to minors. She remains free on unsecured bail.
