Teacher Gets 90 Days for Sexual Battery

(Defiance, Ohio) In January, 29-year-old, married English teacher at Ayersville High School, Nicole Long, resigned her position after allegations became public that she engaged in sex with a 17-year-old student. Subsequently, she pleaded guilty to sexual battery in accordance with a plea deal.

On Monday, Long was sentenced by Judge Joseph Schmenk in Defiance County Common Pleas Court to 90 days in jail and four years probation. Long also loses her teaching credentials and must register as a sex offender.

In passing sentence, Judge Schmenk called Long's actions a blow to the teaching profession.

"It occurred to me that you hurt every other teacher that's out there," he said. "You've hurt every other teacher who's trying to do a good job."

Amen to that!

Adding some mystery to the case, Long gave birth to a son on February 4. The boy's family and Nicole and her husband agreed that no paternity test would be performed to rule out the possibility that the student is the infant's father. Long stated she is "quite confident" that the baby is her husband's child.
