THE NANNY CONGRESS

Karen MacPherson of the Toledo Blade reports on the latest from the Nanny Congress.
Alarmed by the nation's rising rate of childhood obesity, Congress is considering bills designed to wean American children from junk food and inspire them to get physically fit.

One bipartisan group of lawmakers, led by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R., Tenn.) and Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D., N.M.) would take a big-picture approach by focusing on obesity in children and their parents.

These lawmakers, both in the House and Senate, would target federal funds to better educate health professionals about obesity, encourage state and local programs for healthy eating and physical fitness, and boost federal research on eating problems.
Don't let anyone be deceived. This is just another step towards a fat tax.
