(Lorain, OH) Similar to events held in other cities, about 70 men, followed by a handful of women and children, demonstrated yesterday in support of legalizing concealed weapons in Ohio. They wore sidearms or shoulder holsters as they walked through neighborhoods.
This story appears on the Cleveland Plain Dealer website under the heading "Men walk for right to hide their weapons" [emphasis mine] which, IMHO, puts a negative spin on what the marchers desire. Some may say it's a matter of semantics, but I disagree. To have an item concealed does not necessarily mean that it's hidden.
For example, vanity panels are placed on desks to conceal the lower part of the bodies of men and women while they sit. The legs are concealed from view, but everyone knows the legs are there. Therefore, I maintain there is a subtle bias in stating,
". . . to hide their weapons"as opposed to,
". . . to carry concealed weapons."Terrorists 'hide their weapons.' Detectives 'carry concealed weapons.' Like I said, a subtle difference. Call me picky.
