(Williamstown, Kentucky) This story is interesting.
Sheliah M. Cull, 32, is hired by the Grant County School District as a drop-out prevention coordinator. In this capacity, she engages in sexual relations with at least two boys, 14 and 15. In September, she pleads guilty to four charges of sodomy and one of rape. The Grant County Circuit Court sentences her to three and a half years in prison, but sets it aside in lieu of registration and treatment as a sex offender and a promise to avoid contact with the boys.My take is twofold. First, Sheliah M. Cull was guilty of four counts of sodomy and this fact makes me seriously wonder what was going on between her and the boys.
The parents of the boys, however, were not satisfied and filed suit against Cull, the school district, and the Grant County Middle School Principal, Ronald Livingood. The suit claims that Cull shouldn't have been hired because she wasn't qualified nor trained for the job.
Secondly, the parents contend that Cull wasn't qualified to be a drop-out prevention coordinator yet there's no mention of her success at preventing drop-outs. Given her technique, it would seem that she would enjoy stellar results at preventing hormonal teenage boys from dropping out of school. In fact, it wouldn't surprise this writer to learn that previous drop-outs were motivated to go back to school.
Agreed, having the morals of a sewer rat should probably be disqualifying criteria for someone charged with interfacing with young people and children. However, in today's cultural climate, morals don't seem to matter all that much. Michael Jackson, President Clinton, and several busloads of Catholic priests come to mind.
